Saint Thomas the Apostle (c. 1 – c. 72 AD), also known as Didymus (“the Twin”), was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ. He is best known for his initial doubt regarding Jesus’ resurrection, famously declaring, “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into His side, I will not believe” (John 20:25). Upon witnessing the risen Christ, he professed, “My Lord and my God!” (John 20:28). Tradition holds that Thomas traveled to India in 52 AD to spread the Gospel, establishing Christian communities along the Malabar Coast, particularly in Kerala. He is revered as the patron saint of architects and builders. Saint Thomas was martyred in Mylapore (modern-day Chennai, India) around 72 AD.
